What was your PB in 2022? Whether it be for a 5km, 10km, half marathon or full marathon, the likelihood is that you know exactly what your PB was this year – in fact you probably have it logged on Strava.
This #GivingTuesday we’re asking you to help change young lives through the power of athletics by converting your season PB time into a one-off donation.
The Personal Best Foundation recognises that everyone has a personal best but inequality and poverty put the chance to achieve it out of reach for around 4 million children and young people across the UK.
Personal Best Foundation Ambassador, Fatima Whitbread knows only too well the importance of athletics, she credits the sport as being her ‘saviour’ whilst in children’s homes where she spent 14 years of her childhood. We met up with Fatima a few weeks ago to find out exactly how athletics helped her during her difficult younger years:
“I was abandoned as a baby in a London flat and some would say left to die. When I was moved to my first children's home, I didn’t know that I had any parents or siblings. Living in children’s homes made you realise that you had to stand on your own feet and learn to survive and I found myself best when I was doing sport. Athletics allowed me to build my confidence, self esteem and the respect of my peers.”
Sadly, Fatima’s story isn’t unique and today there are millions of children living in poverty many going through their own personal trauma and challenge. Through no fault of their own, these young people are at risk of being excluded from sport and physical activity, putting their mental, physical and emotional health at risk too.
With your help, we can change this story. With your help we can tear down the barriers and level the playing field to make athletics more accessible to everyone irrespective of their circumstances or background.
Together we can change young lives.
#GivingTuesday is a “global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organisations to transform their communities and the world.”
As a new charity we are proud to take part in #Giving Tuesday and we’re asking you to support our community by helping children and young people experiencing inequality and poverty across England to access the sport that we all know and love.
Please donate today and help a young person to achieve their personal best on the track, at school and in life.
